Excellent martial arts drama. This was shown at the Fantasia Festival in Montreal this summer (2008).
The main characters in the movies are played by real life karate master. The fights are realistic and spectacular at the same time. I highly recommend you to watch the movie.

Legendary weapons of China (1982) Lau Kar Leung vs Lau Kar Wing

The legendary Lau Kar Leung goes toe-to-toe or weapon-to-weapon against his real life brother Lau Kar Wing, displaying their proficiency in an extensive array of weapons in this epic classic.
Expertly choreographed fights make this one a must-see for everyone. Though I have to admit I didn't much like the movie as a whole. I just can't warm up to the characters. But who cares, anyway. It's the fights that count!!

Here is the entire finale:

Mark Pollard called this "one of the greatest martial arts epics of all time" and I can't disagree with that.
Once again Sammo Hung proves he is an extremely talented action director by giving us outstanding realistic fights.

Here you can download 2 excellent fights from the film, but I really recommend buying the dvd, it's totally worth it.

Gordon Liu (as Wong Fei Hung) showcasing various styles of Hung Fist against everyone's favorite villain, Johnny Wang Lung Wei (in his only non-villain role)
Martial Club
Excellently choreographed, as usual, by the legendary Lau Kar Leung. A great example of the best old-schooled kungfu classics. They don't make them like this anymore :(

Monkey Kung Fu (1979) aka Stroke of Death

Monkey kungfu
I am not too crazy about Ching Siu Tung as a director (too much fancy wirework) but as a martial actor he displayed incredible skills, as evidenced here. Though not as widely known as Mad Monkey Kungfu (which has the advantage of starring big names), it nontheless features some of the best monkey style fightings ever filmed, on par with the best Lau Kar Leung ever came up with.

Fatal Contact (2006) Wu Jing

Make no mistake, Wu Jing is the new Jet Li. While possessing the same grace and speed, Wu Jing is a much better actor than Li. I have followed his career ever since I saw him in Tai Chi 2 (1996)(he was much slimmer then), he just got better and better. Fatal Contact is proof of just how good this young and charismatic martial artist can be.

S.P.L. aka Sha Po Lang aka Kill Zone (2005)

The greatest working martial artist today isn't Jet Li, it's Donnie Yen. While I like Jet Li as much as the next kungfu lover, I have to admit watching his recent movies, especially Fearless, gives me an impression of deja-vu. It seems like we have seen all his moves before.
Donnie Yen, on the other hand, doesn't stop trying to invent and improve himself. From Legend of the Wolf to SPL to Flash Point, he has given us some of the most inventive fights ever filmed in the history of cinema.
When Yen goes against Wu Jing, it's retractable baton against knife in what is arguably the most brutal, colorful, exciting and spectacular one-on-one combat ever.
The use of color and lighting, the soundtrack and the rhythms of the fight work exceptionally well. You have never seen anything like this before and you probably won't see anything like it again for a very long time.
The final showdown between Yen and Sammo Hung is also very well done, where Donnie Yen incorporated for the first time(?) MMA into the traditional style of onscreen fighting. It was an absolute success.
2 years later, Donnie Yen went on and outdo himself yet again in Flash Point (2007) where MMA is used to even greater effect.

Lion vs Lion (1981)

The movie itself is not bad, but like most HK kungfu flicks back then, it's filled with stupid comedy and retarded clowns. Apparently all the HK filmmakers of this period went to the same school to learn the same puerile brand of humor.
Anyway, like I said, there is no need to suffer the entire movie, you just want to see the fights and indeed there are some impressively staged fights here.

Download:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZI2626PU

The file contains 3 best fights of the movie.
1-Johnny Wang vs Hsu Hsia (he is the co-director and choreographer who introduces us to his Finger Sword style here)
2-Johnny Wang vs a girl (or a woman if you want to be PC)
3-Johnny Wang vs Lo Meng (one of the five venoms, here he is in berserker mode and it's a must-see :))

Hmm...is there anybody that Johnny Wang haven't fought?

File : 65 MB, duration: 0:07:36, type: AVI, 1 audio stream

Not my rip. Thanks go to the original ripper/upper.

Legend of the wolf (1997) Donnie Yen

Donnie Yen is the best martial artist working right now. Yes, he is better than Jet Li. Here is a man who is constantly trying to improve and outdo himself, to bring something new to the kungfu genre.
His creativity is evidenced in Legend of the Wolf which he himself directed. The movie itself is nothing too original but it's the fights that show us just how talented and brilliant Donnie Yen can be as a martial actor and choreographer.
There is a scene where he goes against a monkey-style fighter, both parties move so fast their arms become a blur and only the rapid-fire impact sound gives us a clue as to what is happening.

The Victim (1980) aka Lightning Kung Fu - Leung Kar Yan

"The Great Beardy" Leung Kar Yan is THE man!! Along with Gordon Liu, Lau Kar Leung and Donnie Yen, he is my all-time favorite martial actor. The man has charisma to boost and a great screen presence. In The Victim, he delivers his best performance ever. He moves with the deadly grace of a panther and strikes like lightning (hence the name Lightning Kung Fu). With this film, Sammo Hung also proves he is equal to Lau Kar Leung at choreographing elaborate, outstanding fights.
This film is best representative of classic old-schooled kung fu. A must-see for every fan. It also doesn't hurt that the comedy is slightly less terrible than in other films in the genre.

Return to the 36th chamber (1980) Gordon Liu

2

For this third installemt in the 36th Chamber series, in order to make thing fresh, the filmmakers invented a new style of kung-fu for Gordon Liu: The Knot-tying Fist!! It must be seen to be believed. To make things even more interesting, they have the villains use chair with foldable legs as weapon!!
And guess who the main villain is? Yes, it's Johnny "The Moustache" Wang!!

The movie as a whole is surprisingly good, it delivers just as much fun and great kung-fu as the first and the second. If you have the dough, buy the dvd, it's worth it.
